Musa chiliocarpa, total 100-110 cm, 2 ltr. pot
The Musa chiliocarpa is a banana plant that can grow up to 3 meters high in the wild. In the Netherlands it will remain considerably smaller. The leaves are similar to those of a Musa Dajiao. During the summer months, this plant needs extra water and fertilizer so that the plant grows and blooms strongly.
The flowering is what this species is all about. After 4 to 5 years there is a chance of flowering and when that happens, this banana does so abundantly. When the flowers are fertilized, a large row of small bananas will appear. These bananas have no seeds but are too small to eat. Water little in winter and hibernate at a temperature of at least +10ºC.
When the banana has finished flowering, this stem will die. However, the plant has already produced side shoots and from there it will continue to grow.
When the banana is shipped, leaves may break or we may cut them off as a precaution. However, the banana grows very quickly and will grow back quickly.
