Tetrapanax papyrifera

Tetrapanax papyrifera is one amazing tropical looking favorite.
It is grown as a shrub or small tree (2-3 mtr) of the ginseng family (Araliaceae), native to southern China and Taiwan.
It is the source of rice paper.
It has large, lobed leaves that form a crown.
The central tissues of the stem are split and pressed into thin sheets used for surgical dressings and as watercolour paper.
Rice paper plant will spread underground in good soils, so don't plant it near small defenseless plants.
Placed in full sun is the best, but shade is also possible.
