Collection: Dasylirion wheeleri
Origin USA (Arizona, New Mexico, Western Texas), Northwest Mexico between 900 and 1800 m elevation.
This plant is long-lived and low-maintenance.
It grows slowly to form a dense rosette of silver-blue foliage, to 120-150 cm tall and wide.
Over time, it develops a stout, short trunk up to 120 cm tall, 150 cm in diameter.
Its most common form is a rounded, single head, although sometimes multiple heads are produced.
The leathery leaves have teeth along the margins, and a spoon-shaped base that gives the plant its name Desert spoon.
Dasylirion wheeleri thrives in full sun and even tolerates some shade and humidity if drainage is adequate.
Dasylirion wheeleri is hardy to -15°C.
