Chamaerops humilis vulcano, total 40+ cm, single stem

Chamaerops humilis vulcano, total 40+ cm, single stem

Single trunk.
This Chamaerops vulcano is also a fan palm and has an even more compact leaf growth than the Chamaerops humilis.
The leaf of this palm has fewer spines than its relative Chamaerops humilis. The leaf is more compact and smaller, is dark green in colour with a white waxy layer which gives a nice contrast.
The Chamaerops vulcano grows very slowly, which is why larger specimens are often quite expensive.
The origin of these palms is the small island of Vulcano just north of the island of Sicily.
This palm tree can withstand heat and drought well, but some extra water and light fertilisation in the summer will benefit the growth and beautiful fresh green colour.
This palm tree also grows in a cluster shape and is very compact and full. It is an ideal container plant, partly due to its slow and compact growth.

The winter hardiness is reasonable, but in the open ground it needs extra protection in the winter. Winter hardiness zone 8a (-10ºC).
