Amorphophallus konjac

Amorphophallus konjac is a plant that occurs naturally in the warm regions of Japan, China and Indonesia.
It is a perennial plant with an up to 25 cm wide and 600 g of heavy tuber.
Height 1.5 to 2 m.
The stem is green and pale mottled with shiny, long, pinnate leaves.
The flowers are in a spadix, surrounded by a dark purple, to 55 cm long bract.
Blooms purple in the months of May, June, July.
Location: partial shade.
As of May they can be planted outside in open ground in a semi-shaded spot till fall
In fall take the tubers out of the soil, and should be kept dry and cool in a dark place.
Although not hardy, they can still hibernate in open ground after several years with a thick winter cover.
If you buy them in wintertime, there will be no leaves, they will grow back in spring.
