The Nolina matapensis, also called Tree Bear Grass, is a showier, more lush-looking species with 60-120 cm long and 1 cm wide bright green leaves.
It is a treelike species with a trunk till 8 m tall and one (or sometimes 3 to 4 branches topped by a large head of grasslike leaves.
Its trunk develops very slowly, to 7 cm a year.
Be careful not to plant them in tight spaces, individual plants need 150-180 cm to spread out.
The leaves of this accent plant are unarmed; its edges are sharp and not pleasant to walk through.
The matapensis is cold hardy to -9°C.
