Dicksonia blumei

A stunning tree fern with a trunk to about 6 m tall, base of fern covered with dense, reddish-brown shining hairs measuring about 30 - 500 mm long, upper part of stipe and main rachis covered with sparse pale hairs.

Fronds of upto 2 m long with leafstalks and bases densely covered in thick reddish hairs.
Origin Sumatra and Java to New Guinea and the Philippines.

A very adaptable species, it does well in a wide range of climates, from hot tropical to warm temperate and even tolerates an occasional light freeze with minor damage. So not winter hardy in our climate.

Light preference: semi-shade.
Water preference: moderate water.

It likes bright light and can grow in full sun in humid climates.
